God, health and safety seminars are so pointless. We had to fill out a survey on our workstations in preparation for doing our dissertations. The survey points out possible problems with your work area and then we had to comment on solutions to these. One of the problems read like so:

"Student is not facing monitor"

I had a rather ingenious solution: "Turn around".

Why does a quick pint at the pub always turn into seven or eight and a dodgy haggis super at the end of the night?

Well, I spent my whole birthday in the lab, just got back now. I didn't even remember until the aftenoon when someone actually wished my a happy birthday. Took an extra hit today as one of the members for our group project dropped out two days before it's due. Fucked, just completely fucked.

If you could have any super power what would it be? Same old, same old super strength or flight? I say 'nay'. For me it would be the power to kill a yak. From 200 yards away. WITH MIND BULLETS! That's telekenises baby! I'm awesome.

Security:Public

Just came back from a night at the pub with Sam. It may not be the best idea to post after you've had a few but what the hey. I've decided that coming here was the best idea I've ever had. Back home, I knew what every single day of my life for the next god knows how many years was going to look like and it freaked the shit out of me. Coming here I feel free and not quite sure of where the next day leads, but that's ok. I am having the time of my life and no matter where I settle these memories will be with me forever. I highly recommend the drop everything and leave strategy, how do you know you are in the best place if you have never been anywhere else?

Well, this is quite possibly the worst internet connection that I have had to deal with, and that includes when we had dial-up. My webcam doesn't work, I can't check my email that isn't to my university account and i can't even log onto my banking site. Craptacular.

Things are going OK, but have been very hectic. I still feel a little lost in the city and a little lonely, but have made a couple of friends so far. My program had a hellish induction week so I have not really had time to explore much of the area but I hope I can squeeze some in before the weather turns. It is a really beautiful city, I can't help but keep looking up at the architecture (and of course the Castle!).

I am a little nervous about getting my head back into studying and such, as i have been out of that mind frame for a couple of years now. I had my courses set this week and it looks like I'm pretty booked right up until Christmas.

Well, I do have some pretty pictures to show you but you guessed it, I am unable to upload. Poo.

More to come...assuming the network allows it.

I'm thinking about visiting some caves next year in the UK. Doing some digging and this site has some good places open to the public listed under 'showcaves'.

I was the lucky recipient of an extra ticket to the Reverend Horton Heat show last Friday! Didn't think to much of the heroin-addict-fronted first band (whose name I'm not even sure of), But the Horrorpops kicked ass. In fact, as blasphemous as it might sound to some, I could even say that I liked them more than the Rev himself. I now await a public stoning from my fellow concert goers...

Situations seem to have intensified. My mum told me this morning she is considering leaving my dad if he doesn't get some help (which he has refused to do so far). What the fuck am I going to do? It's gotten to the point where my sister and I have actually thought of secretly putting vallium or something in his drinks for a short time, even just to get to the point where he can be reasoned with. I feel like shit for even saying that.

Well, if you liked X2, do yourself a favor and forget there was ever a third installment. X3 basically destroys everything built in the first two films. Bad plot, bad dialogue, pointless characters and no flow. I did have my reservations about this one considering all the problems it was having: contract issues with the director and writing team leading to their departure to Superman, whiny actors wanting more screen time for their poorly executed boring character, the complete absence of my personal favorite character, and not to mention the rush job which basically had the movie created in a span of nine months just so it could beat Superman to the box office. But hey, what's more important, making a quality film or getting it out there for consumption ASAP?

I found it very hard to like ANY of the characters in this movie, even Wolverine. The winner for best pointless character in a movie goes to the Beast. Frasier Crane? Seriously. The movie would have been exactly the same without him in it (not to mention a lot of characters in this movie), he lifts right out! Oh and Kitty Pryde, who is this sudden main character that was given no introduction? Collosus' only purpose in this movie is to chuck Wolverine across a room twice (Tsk, Tsk. Never use the same kill move twice in a superhero movie, it's lame). Finally, the last scene in this movie seemed eerily familiar. I found myself thinking 'Van Helsing? What are you doing here?'

I'm afraid not even Magneto's repositioning of the Golden Gate bridge can save this stinker. Like my favorite character Nightcrawler, I shall *Bamf* away from this final chapter in disgust.

Anyways, after feeling cheated out a film, we went back home and watched 'The New World' on DVD. That was a mistake too. Long and boring and about not to much in particular. A lot of scenes of her prancing around a forest and some inaudible, mubbling voiceovers. I understand there was supposed to be some inference that the two main characters cannot communicate very well with each other, but if they can't communicate with the audience either it gets real old real fast.

I still feel cheated.

Today's questions are brought to you courtesy of lordameth

1) Of the various cultures, ethnicities or nationalities you belong to, which most strongly do you consider yourself?
I consider myself Canadian because I was born as grew up here, though I'm also proud of my British heritage. Funnily enough I travel on a British passport as opposed to Canadian one...

2) Is there a culture you cannot claim heritage from but which you feel quite close to?
There's culture's that I am interested in, but I wouldn't say I felt 'close' to them. I think that's actually kind of weird.

3) What's one language you wish you knew fluently?
Welsh

4) If you could move anywhere in the world and be guaranteed a job, etc., where would you go?
Scotland...and I'm leaving August 24th! Eeeeep!

5) If you had a time machine, and could witness any one event without altering or disturbing it, what would you want to see?
Tough call, so many to choose from. Probably D-day or the Battle of Britain.

Today's questions are brought to you courtesy of sooguy

Time In A Bottle

1) 10 years ago what did you think you would be doing now?
Ten years ago was my last year in high school and I had a hard enough time thinking where I would be the following fall. I couldn't even fathom 10 years.

2) Where do you think you will be in 5 years from now?
Probably the same place I am now, wondering what the hell happened to the last five years.

3) Do you live life one day at a time or look to the future?
A little from column A, a little from column B...

4) Do you wish you could go back in time and undo something in your life?
Tons of things. I think those that would say 'no' aren't being very truthful. Besides, that's where the drama comes from.

5) If you could send a message back in time and give a younger version of yourself some advice, what would it be?
The Lotto 6/49 numbers for Wednesday, March 8th 2006 are 11, 15, 18, 33, 42 and 49.
